On Blogging As A Grown Ass Woman

Ok, yes, I may have perceived “blogging” as something that the kids do. There. I said it. No, I’m not ashamed. Hell, I feel better already now that I’ve admitted it.

But. And. I’m not a kid, I’m a 43-year old woman. A grown ass woman, actually.

So, why now, after 7+ years of being online? Well, I’m a writer. And writers write. So there’s that. (A side note: I wrote a book. Last I checked, 70,000+ people bought it and it had a lot of 5 star reviews. Also, there’s that one woman who suggested you “not waste your money on it” so…ya know, ya can’t win’em all. ) But I digress.

I’ve been long-form writing on Instagram for years so this isn’t such a novel concept for me. Frankly, I’m also long-winded and writing concisely ain’t my thang but that’s a story for another day.

2020 has been a rough year…no, I mean, a shit storm of a year, for my family. [Expect more on that later.] And I’m learning, growing, grieving, healing, hoping and transitioning in so many ways . I have A LOT to say. For years, I knew I’d write a memoir (many memoirs?) and I’ve never felt more compelled to do so than I do now. Life is short, I mean, REALLY fucking short.

Blogging will help me to create the discipline and space that I need to write without being limited by word count, social constructs or Likes (though I still love connecting through comments so do comment on this post!) I’m a natural teacher and whether that work is done in front of a classroom (I was an Adjunct Professor at both F.I.T. and Parson’s in NYC for years), over a video gathering, a large audience or in writing~ I show up and share my lived experience, the good and the not so good, in the hope that it inspires, teaches or gives others the space to think and be seen.

I WILL WRITE ABOUT THE WORLD AS I LIVE IT; FROM MY OWN PERSPECTIVE ON GROWN ASS WOMANHOOD, WISDOM, HOME, STYLE, BEING BIRACIAL, BEING A BLACK WOMAN (YES, I’M BOTH!) AND ALL THANGS SOCIAL JUSTICE.

This blog has been a long time coming. It’s here and I hope you’ll stick around to read, connect, laugh and be inspired.

With love and wisdom from Montclair xx
